Playful Furniture and Child-Friendly Plate by James Van Vossel

playful furniture and child-friendly plate by james van vossel

James Van Vossel is a designer from Belgium who creates fun furniture and housewares. He designs both for adults and children. But I think that he shines the most with his kids collection. Here are three products from his 2008 collection.

Ergonomic playing and sitting ball

The three handles of the inflatable Z-ball are positioned to give a better position to the child. The side handles give more support so the child can sit more in front.

I imagine a child room or a playroom with a trio of Z-balls to reproduce a lounge feeling. The children can even play video games while sitting on the Z-ball.

Modular cubes

Connect is another take on a concept done several times on the past by other designers. What James Van Vossel's design brings new to the table are the big elastics that hold the cubes together. It is so cute!

A Back Bays style boutique hotel inside the Fairmont Copley Plaza

Gold Room and Floor at Fairmont Copley Playa

Experiencing the Fairmont Gold floor was on my priority list for my trip to Boston last week-end. Fairmont Gold is a hotel within a hotel.

Guests at the Fairmont Gold located on the fourth floor of the Fairmont Copley Plaza enjoy unique quarters with the look and feel of a 1912 mansion house from the Back Bays area.

Stylish accommodations for the discerning travelers

This distinctively British style hotel caters 59 rooms. The rooms on the Gold Floor are more luxurious. The gold chandelier on a dimmer and the floor-to-ceiling marble bathroom announce lavish room amenities. Everything is thought to make your stay more comfortable. They do not just provide the robes; a pair of slippers is waiting for you nicely wrapped in a basket.

The moment you arrive at the dedicated check-in / check-out desk, you feel the superior service. Guests enjoy a private lounge equipped with board games, a library and their own reception area. The package includes a delicious complimentary deluxe continental breakfast with a daily hot entrée. I cherished most the relaxing moments provided by the evening hors d'oeuvres at the lounge. All day, guests have access to complimentary beverages and an honor bar. You pay extra to book a Fairmont Gold room at the Club floor but you will get a lot more in return.

A quick guide to an art and craft station for boys and girls

craft station for girls by ikea

Crafting develops imagination. Even in this era of video games, making art projects is still something boys and girls like to do. The best way to encourage them to pursuit these activities is to set up a practical dedicated space for them.

1 | Craft desk in the kid bedroom

Every child needs a desk to do his / her homework. Double purpose furniture works the best. Why not create a crafting unit where they can do their homework as well?

If your home is large enough to have a children playroom, it is best to put the art & craft area in the kid playroom. Otherwise, place the craft area in their bedroom.

2 | Open shelving unit

Art projects can make a lot of mess so the key is to provide great storage solutions. Start with containers that neatly store the art supplies. For the kids to put them back in the shelf once they finished, think of an easy way in / out method. Open shelving unit is usually the way to go.
