As I laid my eyes on these sunflower cupcakes by Joycelyn of Kuidaore, I knew I found the topic for a post.
Be ready for seeing your guests in awe if you bake and decorate similar sunflower cupcakes.
Prepare in advance you dessert table, the sunflower toppings look too great to not show off your cupcakes.
Menu Ideas
Here are some recipes with simple yet stylish food presentation. This menu can be an alternative to the real-life sunflower bridal shower party and gerbera birthday theme I shown you this week.
Sweets
Kuidaore gives no recipe but the site lists the ingredients for the sunflower icing. If you have some experience, you probably can concoct your own version.

After lunch, my friend H. wanted a cupcake. This is how I discovered this cool ice cream and cupcake place in the heart of Old Montreal. You can see the side of Notre-Dame Cathedral while you are eating sweets at Les Glaceurs.
I was not hungry so I did not taste one. After the fact, I was hungry around 5pm. So I regretted not having bought a cupcake for take-out.
For your information, we typically eat dinner between 8 and 10pm so eating a cupcake at 5pm would not have ruined my appetite.
The Décor
The fun décor and girly colors please me. Instead of the retro vibe, they went with modern counters. The eating area has reference to the French bistro.
In fact, you could reuse their color palette for a birthday party or a baby shower. It looks festive. The palette is ideal for any kids party. The medium to dark wood brings sophistication to the decor.

Travel + Leisure magazine published this month an interesting review of 5 cupcake shops in Los Angeles. Each of these old-fashioned American cake shops has something different to offer.
The winners stand out through their recipes, cake decorations and packaging. Here are 5 cupcakes shops that emerge as the place to go.
Bluebird Café
From my research on the Web, the cupcakes of the Bluebird Café in Culver City are delicious. Their Crayola-bright cupcakes are offered in mini sizes. A practical format if you cannot make up your mind or when you set up a dessert table. Located in Culver City, Bluebird Café attracts the movie studio crews.
Since I did not taste in myself, I looked for a second opinion on the Web. I found a review by the food blogger Bree Crocetti of Triplecreme who said in 2006 the following:

Chocolate Fondue is one of my all time favorite desserts. It is great for mingling and it tastes so delicious. Better yet, you feel good afterwards since you ate lots of fresh fruits dipped with chocolate.
While I was exploring Design & Inredningsbloggen, the Swedish retailer danskdesign.nu caught my eyes with its modern housewares and furniture. The design of chocolate fondue sets is not the most innovative typically.
But that was before Jacob Wagner designed in 2007 its Menu Chocolate Fondue Set. The sleek white porcelain set unites wit and style. With its elongated tray / plate, it is designed to be your own Fondue Set or to share on a romantic dinner. Quite elegant for entertaining!
From their Copenhagen, Denmark office, Jakob Wagner Design creates award winning products and furniture for international clients like Moroso, Magis, Bang & Olufsen, Iittala and Georg Jensen. They designed the Potholder last year.

My friend Jennifer of Design Hole is a member of a book club. When she told me she was hosting a dinner for the review of Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain, I told her I wanted to run the story.
In a matter of fact, we had dinner together at a French bistro when she visited Montreal last December. We spoke about what would be a suitable décor for her event. The key elements of any French Bistro decor are:
- A solid white plain table linen
- A chalkboard menu
- Casual atmosphere
- Rustic , traditional cooking.

The unified element for my weekly blog spotlight is simply brilliant design. As a bonus, you can recycle the color scheme. Even if there is a lot of pink, the result does not feel too girly.
After the holiday break, there were a lot of posts to choose from. Considering that must produce a unified board, I feel that Oh Joy!, Garden Rooms and Yanko Design published the most interesting posts from a stylish living and entertaining point of view. Enjoy!

You can resist these verrine desserts from Spanish baker Bubo, they are simply amazing. It is certainly not me a dessert lover like me. Hey honey, when do we visit Barcelona?
From left to right, these delicacies are:
- Rhubarb glass: a strawberry cream, a cheese mousse, a rhubarb compote and strawberry gelatin topped with a tiny strawberry french macaron
- Hawaii glass: a bittersweet chocolate cream, a lime gel, a macadamia nut streusel and a praline mousse
- Litchi glass: a light litchi cream and brilliance of strawberry and raspberry a la vanilla

I got the pleasures to meet Jennifer of Design Hole while she came in Montreal to celebrate her birthday with her husband.
We read each other blogs and we communicate through Facebook. It was fun meeting face to face. A lot of fabulous restaurants are closed on Sunday. Since she and her husband are foodies, I suggest that we eat at Laloux, a French Bistro in Montreal.
The first course
We all enjoyed a delicious meal. Everything was plated. We like it so much that we forgot to take pictures until the desserts. For the appetizers, our table selected:
- Scallop Carpaccio, lime and avocado vinaigrette, fennel, radish and mujjol caviar
- Smoked squash soup, maquerel, oven dried tomato, glazed onions, marinated mushrooms
- Tomato broth soup with fresh basilic.

Stylish entertaining calls for dramatic effects. To quickly add a touch of sophistication nothing beats elegant cake pedestals.
For tea party treats, pastries, sweet delights and cupcakes go with a three tier model. Since they stack together, you can only use one or two if that is what you need. Not just for desserts, stands can be used to serve canapés and tapas.
My favorites from the selection at Neiman Marcus (and Horchow) are definitely the floral black and ivory Covered Cake Plate, the Lavender Glass Cake Stands series and the Cupcake Stand series.

Why French Chefs master the art of cooking? This is a question that can open many debates.
One thing for sure, the Chefs in France place a superior level of attention to the techniques, the taste and the food presentation.
The culinary creations of Philippe Conticini will not change my mind about my love affair with French cooking. Imagine the Wow factor around your guests if you were to hire a caterer that served desserts like those.
About his style, his philosophy
Philippe Conticini relies on his audacity, his techniques, the tradition and finally his intuition to invent his creations.
What distinguishes a Chef from all of us is that a true Chef knows how to play with every aspect of taste and texture. They often used a wide variety of flavors to achieve the look and taste they are looking for. For him, gastronomy is a game of flavors whether he does a dish, a terrine or a dessert.
